It has been a couple of months since I last shared a weekly blog, and when I last shared one I had a different focus to my business. Although things have changed and morphed, the power of Breathing and Breathwork are still a very large part of the work that I am doing now. I mean if we're not breathing we're dying. Legitimately. One of my favourite things to note is that the human body can usually last up to 30 days without food, 3-4 days without water, but yet most people cannot make it 60 seconds without air in their lungs. This is still a large focal point I am working on solving. Now, you might be asking, "Shea, why would I need to hold my breath for 60 seconds or more?" The reason you should try to do so is to increase your lung capacity. It's one of the most important things you can do for your long term survival and health. As we age, our lung capacity shrinks, and with less air in our lungs and bodies, our ability to extend our life drastically decreases. 

So moving on from the thought of imminent death, let's get back to the focus of this blog. So my business focus has changed, slightly. I'm still using performance breathing as a tool, and it's an important tool because it can be used to help one consistently access the "Flow State". 

A simple breathing technique you can do right now, this moment, is to close your eyes, shut your mouth, focus, and connect with your breath. The protocol is as follows:

  • Inhale for 5 seconds
  • Hold for 5 seconds
  • Exhale for 5 seconds
  • Hold for 5 seconds

This is the Box Breathing technique. It is a simple breathing protocol to follow while still allowing the mind to get ultra clear and present on a singular focus. I use this right before I hop on a sales call, podcast, or any other work meeting. It helps me stay calm in the moment, present, and drive my concentration towards success. Try it now. The Focus:

So that's the main focus of my business, to allow regular people like yourself, myself, and others to consistently access the "Flow State". By understanding our unique "flow state" triggers or activities that help boost our focus & concentration, creativity, presence, memory, and reduce our stress & fatigue.

You might be wondering how am I an expert in accessing the "flow state"? For me it took taking a step back and analyzing the triggers and activities I use throughout my day that help me stay in moments of heightened creativity, focus, and ultimately allow me to perform at my personal peak. Some of those triggers or activities I've identified for myself are: skiing, playing guitar, breathwork, hiking, endurance movement, among others.

Now this is a fairly large change of focus from just breathing and helping people breathe to impact their health. A place where I started is changing my "Breathing Mechanics". What are those? Those are the ways in which our bodies breathe. The movement of our body during breathing. Now it's not to say you're doing it incorrectly, this is a pretty big assumption from me, you might already have dialed in your mechanics. However, I know when I started this work, I didn't have proper breathing mechanics to allow me to access all the benefits of breathing. Things like entering the "flow state".
